On a historic day at Tabari Place, Boroko, we celebrated the triumphant unveiling of the Boroko Precinct Transformation Project, a remarkable achievement in line with the visionary priorities set by the Hon. Powes Parkop, the Governor of the National Capital District. This ambitious endeavor was dedicated to crafting an all-inclusive and flourishing urban environment that would benefit all of its residents. The road to this extraordinary success was paved with an extensive array of awareness campaigns, collaborative engagements with stakeholders, and substantial investments in infrastructure rehabilitation. These initiatives formed the solid groundwork for this transformative project. Notably, the declaration of the Boroko Central Business District as a Betel Nut Free Zone, enforced in close partnership with the Metropolitan Police Command, marked a pivotal step toward a cleaner and safer urban milieu. The triumph of this initiative can be attributed to the unwavering commitment of our dedicated stakeholders, who worked tirelessly together to breathe new life into the Boroko Precinct, thus contributing to the realization of our dream of a thriving city. The National Capital District Commission (NCDC) remains steadfast in its commitment to meet the aspirations of Port Moresby's residents, relentlessly forging a brighter and more promising future for our beloved city.

NCDC and Amazing Port Moresby proudly presented the vibrant Boroko Night Market, a thrilling addition to our city's cultural landscape. As a pivotal phase of the Boroko Precinct Transformation Project, and in perfect timing with the 48th Independence Celebrations, this eagerly anticipated event commenced with boundless enthusiasm. The evening saw an impressive turnout of over 2,500 residents, spanning working and middle-class families, children, tourists, and expats, all gathering to partake in the festivities. Aligned with NCD Governor Parkop's visionary quest to metamorphose Port Moresby into a clean, safe, healthy, planned, and livable city, one precinct and street at a time, the Boroko Night Market's launch was a testament to months of unwavering dedication to this inspiring vision. Henceforth, every Wednesday from 5 pm to 10 pm, Boroko will be ablaze with life, hosting an array of more than 50 vibrant stalls and captivating entertainment, reinvigorating one of our city's most beloved areas. The launch heralded a new era for our capital city. With the festive Independence spirit already sweeping across our residents, the event was an undeniable triumph. Dancers and entertainers from the Active City Development Program, joined by vendors and visitors alike, united to inaugurate what promises to become a hallmark program for our cherished city.

Amazing Port Moresby played the role of a gracious host, extending its warm welcome to regional and global visitors at the Pacific ICT Ministers' Dialogue Official Welcome Dinner. This esteemed event, brought together distinguished figures, including Prime Minister Hon. James Marape, Minister for ICT Hon. Timothy Masiu, NCD Governor, Hon. Powes Parkop, Member for Moresby North-West Hon. Lohia Boe Samuel, Motu Koitabu Chairman Hon. Dadi Toka Jnr, and ICT Ministers and Heads of Delegations from across the Pacific region. The evening was a celebration of vibrancy and grandeur, featuring captivating performances by Amazing Port Moresby's Active City team, leaving guests thoroughly entertained and delighted.

The grand opening of the World Indigenous Business Forum (WIBF) 2023, held at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, was a spectacular affair, celebrating indigenous culture and entrepreneurship. The event commenced with a red carpet moment featuring cultural sing-sing groups led by Motu Koita, accompanied by rhythmic chants and instrument beats by UPNG. 500 international delegates and guests from 15 countries attended the event. The evening's program featured captivating highlights, including a skydiver's grand entrance, and a rendition of the Papua New Guinea national anthem by Marianville Secondary School Choir, PNG Defence Force Band, and violinist Charlene Cholai Sahoto. The night continued with a mesmerizing Rhythm & Dance of a 1,000 Tribes Parade, a multimedia presentation welcoming attendees to Amazing Port Moresby, and inspiring speeches by notable figures. A spectacular performance of the Papua New Guinea story by Active City Development Program youths left the audience enthralled. The evening culminated with a sumptuous dinner featuring both local and international cuisines, followed by contemporary live music by Vaita Pala. The event concluded with closing remarks, leaving lasting memories of an unforgettable evening celebrating indigenous culture and business.

The grand finale of the World Indigenous Business Forum (WIBF) 2023 took place during a magnificent closing ceremony at APEC HAUS and for the first time on Ela Beach. The evening was filled with captivating performances, including Leroy Walter Murray's soulful saxophone melodies and the Rock Bottom Band's energetic tunes. The celebration transitioned to Ela Beach for an unforgettable beach party. The night featured stellar performances by Patti Pots, Sir George Telek, traditional acts, Vaita Pala, and Sambra Aikit. The evening culminated in a dazzling fireworks display, marking the end of a truly memorable event that celebrated indigenous culture and unity.
4.3: ARTISAN VILLAGE

A two-day celebration of creativity and culture unfolded at Ela Beach during the Artisan Village event. With a bustling showcase of 60 SME stalls, this vibrant gathering brought together a diverse array of talents and offerings. From arts and crafts to home decor, Bilums, Meri blouses, delectable food and beverages, and agricultural wonders, visitors immersed themselves in a world of artisanal delights. The atmosphere was alive with busking performances, captivating face painting, thrilling displays by the PNG Circus, headgear-themed photo booths, mesmerizing dance performances, live portrait artistry, and soul-stirring poetry and spoken word performances. Artisan Village was a testament to the rich tapestry of talent and creativity that thrives in Papua New Guinea, creating a memorable and enriching experience for all who attended.
5: NBC 50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

A resounding tribute to half a century of broadcasting excellence unfolded at the NBC 50th Anniversary Celebration. The event marked a significant milestone as NBC floats were launched, immortalizing this historic occasion. The day continued with NBC floats embarking on a tour, accompanied by the Cool Range Band and 4 Regions Ambassadors. At key locations, including Stop & Shop Waigani Central and Vision City, activations featuring the PNG Circus, ACDP Dance Team, Poly Crew, giveaways, prizes, and more enthralled the audience, with live radio crossovers adding to the excitement. Meanwhile, at HQ, a live telecast brought the celebrations to life, while a lineup of captivating entertainment acts took the stage, captivating all in attendance. As the sun began to set, the arrival of NBC floats received by Sing Sing groups marked a poignant moment and reached a symbolic high point with the release of 50 balloons, leaving everyone with cherished memories of this historic celebration.

The evening was a captivating blend of entertainment and music that swept attendees off their feet, fostering a sense of unity as we came together to commemorate this extraordinary milestone. It was a night filled with elegance, entertainment, and the creation of enduring memories at the heart of Papua New Guinea's broadcasting legacy.

The Beach Gala Dinner at Ela Beach was a night to remember, steeped in elegance and entertainment. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the event began with a heartfelt walk down memory lane, NBC video tribute, followed by inspiring remarks from key figures including NBC Managing Director Mr. Kora Nou and DICT Minister Hon. Timothy Masiu. The almost 500 attendees indulged in a delightful buffet dinner showcasing local and international cuisine. Entertainment flowed throughout the night, featuring captivating performances by PATTI POTTS DOI, MEREANI MASANI, MAL MENINGA KURI, ANSLOM NAKIKIUS and Vaita Pala. The evening crescendoed with a toast and a dazzling fireworks display. Closing notes by the emcee brought the night to a satisfying conclusion, leaving lasting memories of an enchanting evening by the beach.

With over 100 participants representing diverse sectors, including hotels, tour agencies, the workshop provided a robust platform for addressing the city’s readiness for the Chinese market.
Through engaging presentations, penal discussions and interactive sessions, attendees gained invaluable knowledge of the market updates, post-Covid 19 Chinese traveler behavior, and effective strategies for attracting Chinese tourist and business to Port Moresby.

9. SHAPING THE FUTURE: HON NCD GOVERNOR POWES PARKOP LEADS NCD​
Connecting Visionaries, Uniting Youth and Leaders to Foster Innovation and Collaboration

Walk for Life, Walk for Youth
The first NCD Youth Summit & Expo, took place on August 10 to 14, 2024, in Port Moresby. Coinciding with UN International Youth Day, this event was led by the visionary Hon. NCD Governor Powes Parkop who aims to connect our energetic youth with the people and opportunities that can inspire, empower, and engage them.
Our mission was to showcase pathways to success in education, sports, youth empowerment, life skills, health, and the arts, encouraging social, moral, and spiritual growth while fostering innovation and leadership. We where aimed to direct the incredible energy of our youth toward positive activities, addressing pressing issues and creating opportunities for their development.
Hosted by the NCD Governor & Office, with the Prime Minister as our guest of honour, the event featured VIPs such as the Minister of Youth, UN Resident Coordinator, US Ambassador, Australian High Commissioner, and various other national and international dignitaries. Collaborators including prominent organizations like the UN, UN WOMEN, UNFPA, UNICEF, National Youth Development Authority (NYDA), US Embassy, DFAT, NCDC, TIPNG, PNG Scouts Association and others. The event was in partnership with the NCD Governor, National Youth Development Authority (NYDA), US Embassy, UN, and the National Government.
Over the course of five days, we will brought together 200 youths from NCD electorates, 50 national and international speakers, 10 political leaders, 30 info booths, 20 SME stalls, 100 volunteers & working team, and 30 service providers. Our theme, "Empowering Youths for a Better and Progressive NCD," aligns with the international theme, “From Clicks to Progress: Youth Digital Pathways for Sustainable Development.” This dual focus highlighted the transformative power of digital technology in creating sustainable development opportunities and underscores the importance of collaboration and mutual support across generations.

This summit was aimed to connect various agencies, provide information on opportunities for youth progress, and foster networking and collaboration. It offered a platform for youths to meet peers and stakeholders, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections. It's a space for showcasing talents and aspirations, where young people can share their skills, dreams, and plans for the future. We were committed to skill-building and leadership, offering workshops, training, and educational sessions to empower our youth. Our goal was to inspire change, encouraging youths to become agents of positive transformation in their communities and beyond, aligning our efforts with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Papua New Guinea's Medium Term Development Plan IV (MTDP-IV) goals.
Innovation were at the heart of this event, encouraging youths to bring forward innovative solutions to local and global challenges. We were dedicated to inclusivity, ensuring all youth demographics were represented and had a voice. Our mission was to promote equal opportunities for all youths to contribute to and benefit from initiatives aimed at building a clean, safe, healthy, and liveable city.
The impact of the summit was profound, driving sustainable development, fostering community spirit, preparing our youth for the future, and creating job opportunities. We targeted youths aged 18 to 30 from diverse backgrounds, including students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, activists, and influential youth community leaders.

The Expo and Music Festival was on August 10 and 11 which was open to the public, inviting everyone to join and experience the excitement. On Day 3, Monday, August 12, registered participants gathered at APEC Haus for a keynote address by the Prime Minister and the official launch of International Youth Day for PNG, featuring a pledge towards Youth Defining Our Today and Shaping Our Future. This was be followed by a series of panel discussions, keynote speeches, and workshops on August 13 and 14.
As Governor Parkop says, “We must reflect on where we are, envision where we're going, and strive to do better for the future of our city and our country. Let's come together to make this vision a reality.”​
